Winter Select 2016 (MY2015)

Information for Parents
Foster City (Region 62)

The purpose of Winter Select is to provide players from all Area 2N fall programs that have demonstrated superior skills, effort, attitude, team play and commitment the opportunity to continue to develop their skills in a more competitive environment against teams with similar skills.

The Winter Select season is very much a reward for the region’s (city’s) best AYSO players from the Fall season – including players who played in either AYSOFC’s Fall primary program or AYSOFC’s Fall “Club” program.

Winter Select includes teams for both boys and girls in the following age groups: U9, U10, U12, and 14. AYSO Foster City is normally allowed one team in each division. Depending on availability, AYSOFC may be offered the opportunity to form and field a second team in certain divisions.

Coaches for Winter Select are appointed and confirmed by AYSOFC’s Winter Select co-coordinators. (Shannon Pappas and Emil Picchi).

Players are selected for WS teams based on non-subjective data provided by each player’s coach and by the conferring of all of the coaches within each division. The most important factor that coaches will consider is a player’s strength (skills, understanding of the game, and value to a team). Other considerations may include what position(s) a player plays well; attitude; and attendance. To be considered for a Winter Select team, a player must have participated in at least 50% of that player’s regular season games in the Fall and, if that player played in the primary division, also at least 50% of that player's games in the Hirschel Cup. There will not be tryouts for Winter Select.  Invitations for Winter Select will be extended only after the second (i.e. final) weekend of the Hirschel Cup.

Practices for Winter Select will begin in early December.

Registration fees for Winter Select will be nominal (i.e. in the $60 range). This fee will include a WS hoody. This fee will not include the cost of a uniform for those who need one (i.e. those players who do not already own an AYSOFC Club uniform). In addition, some teams may choose to enlist the help of a UK coach, which will add a small amount to the WS fee for players on that particular team.

Games: All games will be played on Saturdays – from January 9 through February 27. All games will be played on artificial turf fields, and so rain or shine. All games will be played within AYSO’s Area 2N, which includes Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, Hillsborough, Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, and Foster City. The schedule of games will be released in late December.

Rules: All of the rules that govern AYSOFC’s primary program will be in effect in the Winter Select season except for the three-quarter. It is possible that in the U9, U10, and U14 divisions that a player may occasionally not play three quarters of a game but will always play at least half of each game.
