AYSO Winter Select 2017

 Information for Parents
 Foster City (Region 62)

The purpose of the Winter Select season is to provide players in AYSO’s Fall Core programs
who have demonstrated superior skills, effort, attitude, team play and commitment the opportunity
to continue to develop their skills in a more competitive environment against teams with similar skills.

The Winter Select season is a reward for Foster City’s best players from AYSO’s Fall “Core” (i.e. open registration) season.

Foster City will field Winter Select teams for both boys and girls in the following age groups:  U9, U10, U12, and 14.

Coaches for Winter Select are nominated by Fall Core division managers, selected by AYSOFC’s Winter Select coordinator, and confirmed by several members of AYSOFC’s board.

Players are selected for WS teams based on non-subjective data provided by each player’s coach and by the conferring of all of the coaches within each division.  The most important factor that coaches will consider is a player’s strength (skills, understanding of the game, and value to a team). Other considerations may include what position(s) a player plays well; attitude; and attendance.

To be considered eligible for a Winter Select team, a player must have participated in at least 50% of that player’s regular season games and 50% of practices during the Fall Core season and also at least 50% of that player’s team’s games in the Hirschel Cup.

There will not be tryouts for Winter Select.

Invitations for Winter Select will be extended only after the second (i.e. final) weekend of the Hirschel Cup tournament.

Practices for Winter Select will begin in early December.

Registration fees for Winter Select will be nominal (i.e. in the $50-75 range).

Games: All games will be played on Saturdays – from January 7 through February 25. All games will be played on artificial turf fields, and so games will be played rain or shine. All games will be played within AYSO’s Area 2N, which includes Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo,        Hillsborough, Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, and Foster City. The schedule of games will be released in late December.

Rules:  All of the rules that govern AYSOFC’s primary program will be in effect in the Winter Select season except for the three-quarter.  It is possible that in the U9, U10, and U14 divisions that a player may occasionally not play three quarters of a game but will always play at least half (i.e. two quarters) of each game.
